Supported computer operating systems

Apple and Microsoft have both released new computer operating systems in the last week. Some issues to be aware of:

=> Apple’s Mac OS X 10.9 “Mavericks” was released this afternoon. There are known compatibility issues with some applications, and it has not been tested with many Cornell systems by ChemIT or CIT.
=> Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 was released late last week as a major update to their Windows 8 product. Again, it has not been tested at all with Cornell systems by ChemIT or CIT.

We in ChemIT will be developing support for these operating systems over the coming months. In the meantime, ChemIT will continue fully support Windows 7 and Apple OS 10.8 “Mountain Lion”.

ChemIT has created a page with information to help you understand current supportable operating systems and newly available options to prevent problems and enable emerging technologies:

For computers ChemIT manages directly in administrative areas, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the version of operating system you are currently using.

For machines ChemIT co-manages with research groups or does not manage, we invite you to review our page above, and to consult with ChemIT staff before upgrading your operating system. Our experience may save you trouble.
