Supporting Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Physics Instruction, and Physics Administration

If you have Windows XP, upgrade or protect. MS support ending soon.

Windows XP is now 11 years old, and Microsoft (MS) support is ending soon. If you own or manage XP systems, you should plan to upgrade or otherwise protect them.

Microsoft is ending support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. At that point, there will be no additional updates, including security patches, which will make XP systems a high risk on the Internet. (CIT ended support for XP in May of 2013.)

ChemIT will continue to support existing XP installations where necessary, with the following recommendations:
=> XP machines should be upgraded to Windows 7 or higher whenever possible. We have found that virtually all instrument and other special installations can be upgraded.
=> XP machines which are still in use should not be connected to the Internet.
=> ChemIT can schedule operating system upgrades and system replacements to help avoid down time. It is often easiest to build a new system, and migrate data and functions from the old to the new system.
